A Diary About
Breast Cancer
A raw, honest daily comic diary about facing the unexpected—the diagnosis, treatment, and finding ways to keep going. 364 pages of real life, four panels at a time.
What's this book about?
My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. I didn't know how to deal with it, so I started drawing.
Every day I made a four-panel strip about whatever was happening—waiting rooms, test results, the horrible things you say trying to be funny when you're scared. This is Book 1: the beginning of that diary. The diagnosis, the treatment, and the small weird moments that kept us going.
It's honest. It's sometimes funny. It's 364 strips of real life.

How it all started
"Then This Happened…" started as a way to process the hardest thing we'd ever been through. Drawing a four-panel strip every day gave the chaos a shape—something small we could point at and say yeah, that happened.
What began as a coping mechanism turned into an ongoing daily webcomic diary that's still going. This is where it all started. Book 1 is the original run: the year we found out, the year we got through it.
